[Odonata-l] Southern hemisphere odes

Well, here in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, things are just cooling off
nicely to temperate temperatures overnight and it's staying below 100F
during the day :) Our weekend is Friday/Saturday ... I was out on a desert
drive to an oasis on Friday ... In the desert saw a dragonfly buzzing
around, probably Selysiothemis nigra. At the oasis was an Orthetrum
chrysostigma and a Paragomphus sinaiticus. Yesterday I was out at the
artificial ponds at a new golf course being developed. The reeds are being
allowed to grow back after being hacked down over the summer. There's a
large population of Ischnura senegalensis (was new record for UAE from this
site in the spring) there although it's down from last April when you could
have had them by the shovel full in the reeds ... Quite a few mating pairs.
Saw mating Anax ephippiger and Orthetrum sabina. There were lots of both
sexes of Diplacodes lefebvrei about but none observed mating and I spotted
one male and one female Crocothemis erythraea.

One of these days I'll get organized enough to put up some of my pictures of
the odonata of UAE and Oman on a website ...

Hopefully that will give you a fix for a few days ;)
