Hi Folks,
I have come into possession of a number of adult specimens that had been
acetoned a decade or more ago but subsequently were improperly stored
and are now infested to various degrees with some sort of what appear to
be fungal hyphae. Some are heavily "carpeted" and key structures for
identification are obscured. I want to save what I can and return them
to the best possible condition for long-term storage. I have tried both
re-acetoning and drying them and briefly submersing them in ethanol
baths then thoroughly drying them. Both methods greatly improve the
specimens for the short term and body parts are again visible. I'm
wondering if others have addressed this problem and found a better
long-term treatment, or if there is a reason why I should prefer one of
the treatments I've tried over the other?
